Why Does My Carpet Smell?
Carpet odor almost always has a specific source. Identifying which one you're dealing with is the fastest path to fixing it — and to knowing whether surface cleaning is enough.
Pet Urine in the Pad or Subfloor

Moisture and Mildew

Absorbed Cooking and Smoke Odor
Fibers absorb airborne particles over time. Deep cleaning removes much of this, though heavy smoke saturation is difficult and sometimes cannot be fully removed.
Old Spills That Weren't Fully Cleaned
Milk, juice, beer, sauces and other food spills leave residue in the fiber and backing even after the surface stain fades. Bacteria feeding on that residue produce the smell.
Padding and Subfloor Contamination
When contamination has soaked past the carpet backing, cleaning the top of the carpet won't reach it. Sometimes pad replacement and subfloor sealing are the correct fix — that is called honestly rather than sold repeat cleanings that won't solve it.
